Interview Prep

Science is evolving. New tools and ideas are changing how discovery happens. Science Better is a collection of interviews with folks like you who are blazing a new trail. Read more about the series or get a sense from previous Ideas & Interviews

We’re starting a new interview series with “field builders” to identify the commonalities between these scientific entrepreneurs. The goal is to create a resource for future field builders to reference and draw inspiration.

Where: On Zoom
When: Whenever is convenient for you. Hopefully in Q1 2025.
What to prepare: Anything that would help you answer the questions and prompts below.

Part I (10-15 minutes) - Your background...

How did you get interested in this topic or issue? What were the critical life experiences that pointed you towards the work? I’m less interested in formal training or resume-repeating life stories that show up on other podcasts—although to be clear: those are fine—and more interested in the specific aspects that influenced your field-building tendencies, like Isha’s story about party planning.

Part II (20-25 minutes) - Your field...

How did it start? What’s the origin story of your organization? What tactics and techniques helped get things moving? What mistakes did you make? Who were the brave philanthropists who emboldened you (if you want to name them)?

Part III (10-15 minutes) - “If I had to do it again…”

What advice do you have for new field builders? What do you think about the future of field building more broadly? What resources do you wish were available?
